Suzuki achieved a new record in 2000 with sales totalling 26,747 units, 16.14% ahead of the total figure for the company in 1999.

Its share of the new car market reached 1.11%, up from 1% in the previous year.

Total sales were up by 3,719 units on the previous full year record set in 1999 (22,034). Total 4x4 sales were up by 13% to 9,849, total passenger car sales were up by 11.35% to 14,843 units and sales of the Carry van, at 2,055 units, more than double those in 1999.

David Seward, Suzuki GB's sales and marketing director - automobiles, said: "This is a significant achievement especially when viewed against the background of the exceptionally difficult and very competitive trading conditions that faced the industry in 2000.

"Major objectives in 2001 will be to further enhance and reinforce all of the resources of our dealers and their visibility in the market place, add to all the consumer services and benefits currently provided and create additional growth opportunities for our distribution network via the introduction of innovative sales and marketing, finance, parts, service and accessories programmes."

Also, there will be a number of new launches, including the Grand Vitara XL-7 seven seat 4x4 estate at the Amsterdam Show and an all new 5-door hatchback in the C-sector which will be seen for the first time at Geneva.
