Delphi has launched a scheme offering independent garages the opportunity to profit from the rapidly expanding market in air-conditioning service and repair business.

More than 65% of European cars are expected to feature air-con by 2002 and around 3m cars in the UK have systems fitted.

Delphi's new scheme, known as the 'Air-conditioning retail scheme' includes more than 11 hours of specialist training, equipment, branded signs, point of sale material and uniforms. There is also a telephone helpline.

For more complex repairs participants have access to air conditioning services centres, of which there are 60 in the UK, of Delphi Diavia air-con installation and repair specialists.

Scheme members will have access to more than 3,200 different part numbers. "Air-conditioning is not a fit and forget option. It requires servicing every two years or 24,000 miles, if it's performance is to be maintained," said Jog Lall, Delphi European retail network manager.

"It's Delphi's strategy to add value for our customers in as many ways as we can. The new scheme helps garages to be the first in their area to offer an industry recognised service in a rapidly growing market segment."
