Fiat Auto UK has appointed Inchcape to head its entire used vehicle remarketing activities in the UK for the next three years. The internet will be a major part of the new remarketing system.

The main disposal route for Fiat and Alfa cars will be a web-based electronic stock locator facility managed by a team of 17 Inchcape employees in Corby.

Vehicles will be offered to Fiat and Alfa dealers at a fixed online price. Dealers will also be able to research a number of online finance options. Fiat will also run two electronic auctions each week that will give dealers the chance to bid on used vehicles via the internet. The technology is reported to be able to handle 60 sales an hour.

The auction facility will be linked to Manheim and BCA Europe's physical auctions which will be open to dealers outside Fiat's own network.

John Chater, Fiat UK used car operations manager, said: “The partnership between Fiat Auto and Inchcape will greatly enhance profit opportunities for all approved Fiat and Alfa Romeo used car dealers.”

Inchcape's logistics and refurbishment company, EuroFleet, will be responsible for the transportation, storage and refurbishment of all the cars from two sites in Northamptonshire and one in Edinburgh.
