DVLA confirms new VED rates

The DVLA has confirmed that the new top VED band for cars emitting over 225 g/km of C02 will incur road fund tax of £215 for diesels, £210 for petrol cars, and £200 for alternative fuel vehicles.

The band below - for vehicles with CO2 emissions of 186g/km and over - will have their annual rate of duty increased by £25 to £195 for diesel and to £190 for petrol cars; alternative fuel vehicles will have their annual rate increased by £20 to £180. The alternative fuel category will be extended to include Flex Fuel cars capable running on E85 bioethanol.

The new top band increases VED costs for the owners of the highest CO2-emitting diesel cars and SUVs by £45, and by £40 for petrol ones.

Light Commercial Vehicles first registered on or after March 1, 2001 will have their annual rate of duty increased by £5, to £170. The Euro IV Light Goods Vehicles tax class (light goods vehicles registered on or after March 1, 2003, which have Euro IV status) will close as of December 31, 2006 to new registrations.
