Name: Simon Cook
Company: Mondial UK
Job: Automotive director
Age: 40ish

How did you get in to the automotive business?
My father worked in the motor industry for 39 years and consequently I was fascinated by anything with an engine. After university I worked for a while in The City, but soon got bored and joined the inaugural graduate management programme at Iveco Ford Truck.

What does your job entail?
I am responsible for increasing motor manufacturer activity at Mondial across our three main lines of business; roadside assistance, warranty and CRM.

How will your job change over the next few years?
Government regulation and the changing socio-economic and environmental climates will compel us to adapt our services. In addition, new technologies will present real opportunities to develop the relationship building activities we provide manufacturers.

What would you say to young people planning to join the industry?
The motor industry is of massive importance to this country. It is never dull, always changing, full of characters and provides myriad opportunities to suit a wide range of abilities.

Worst career move?
Turning down a job as Peter Stringfellow’s head of recruitment and selection.

And the best?
Joining Mondial of course!
