TV star Ricky Tomlinson has opened his own garage in Liverpool to help raise the profile of the motor repair sector.

Royle Motors, named after Tomlinson’s role in the BBC comedy, The Royale Family, will offer servicing, MoTs and auto repairs with help from his friend and trained mechanic, Harry Walsh.

The garage, in Edwards Lane, Speke, has joined the Good Garage Scheme, which was set up to help provide effective self-regulation of independent car workshops and MoT test centres.

Tomlinson, said: “I’m delighted to be part of a business which will not only provide a great service to Liverpool’s motorists but flies the flag for reliable and honest independent garages across the country.

“We’ve joined the Good Garage Scheme because we think it’s important to raise the reputation of garages like ours and show that our customers adhere to strict customer service guidelines.”

Walsh said: “I have always maintained Ricky’s cars but left the trade a year or so ago. Tomlinson kept calling me to see if I would start up again and said he would invest in helping me to set up another garage.

“He’s done a lot to help get the business off the ground and working in Speke has meant I’ve returned to my roots. As a Good Garage Scheme member, all our customers receive a service checklist of the work that was carried out on their vehicle. Plus, we are branded with the Good Garage Scheme identity.”

More than 30 garages in the Liverpool and wider Merseyside area have already joined the Good Garage Scheme, including Burnley Motors in Moor Place, D K W Autos in Beau Street, Mike Allen & Son in West Derby Road, C & N Car Services in Aintree and Village Motor Company in Wallasey.
