Property consultant Rapleys is advising dealers to revisit any previous planning refusals for food retail shop development on their sites.

The Government is considering changes in planning policy guidance which could remove several hurdles and open opportunities for food retailers.

Under the proposal, applicants won’t have to demonstrate the need for a proposal in a non-central location.

Rapleys said: “Dealer sites within urban areas that are close to retail centres could now become a ready source for retail operators and developers, particularly if it can be shown that any proposals can integrate well with the nearby retail centre.”
