The entry level price point for the 508 is slighter higher than the £17,295 Ford Mondeo, but £800 cheaper than the Vauxhall Insignia’s entry level model.

The 508 will be available as a saloon and SW from launch and there will be five trims levels to choose from: Access, SR, Active, Allure and GT.

Customers will have a choice of two petrol engines – a 1.6 VTi 120bhp and 1.6 THP 150bhp. There will be five diesel engine variants with a 1.6 HDi 122bhp, 1.6 HDi with stop start and then Peugeot’s 2.0 HDi in three power outputs; 140bhp, 163bhp and 200bhp.
