Cumbrian AM100 car retailer Lloyd Motor Group has continued it recent push for expansion with the acquisition of P.V. Dobson’s Volvo Car UK dealership near Kendal.

The dealership will be renamed under the Lloyd South Lakes banner as part of the change of ownership, which strengthens Lloyds’ growing presence in the region where it already operates Lloyd BMW South Lakes and Lloyd Mini South Lakes.

It is the latest addition to a Lloyd Motor Group operation after the June 2021 acquisition of Inchcape's Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) business in York and February’s addition of Windermere-based Kia retail group Rayrigg Motors – introducing dealerships at Windermere and Morecombe.

Commenting on the group’s latest new dealership opening, Lloyd Motor Group chief executive Bryan Lloyd said: “We are pleased to be adding this site to the group and representing Volvo Cars in the south of Cumbria.

“This acquisition is an exciting opportunity for Lloyd Motor Group and will allow us to strengthen our offering across the region and further our relationship with the Volvo Cars brand.”

He added: “We are delighted to take over the business from P.V. Dobson, who, like us, recognise their family values as one of the foundations to their success.

“We hope to continue their good work and can assure existing customers that they will be well looked after by our team.

“We’d like to thank Chris and Bridget Hammond and all of the Dobson family, and we wish them the very best in their future projects”.

Lloyd South Lakes - Volvo Cars is Lloyd Motor Group’s second Volvo retailer.

It originally represented the manufacturer in Cockermouth, from 1977, before moving to Carlisle.

The group now employs over 1,100 people across more than thirty locations throughout the north of England and south of Scotland.
