Planning officials have given the green light for Dick Lovett Group’s new flagship Porsche Centre in South Wales.

Permission was granted for the showroom development in Celtic Springs Business Park, just off Lakeside Drive, Coedkernew, near Newport at a meeting of Newport City Council’s planning department yesterday (November 3).

The Swindon-based AM100 luxury car retail group claims around 100 jobs could be created by the new franchise point – 80 full-time positions and 20 part-time positions.

Dick Lovett’s plans form the latest in a series of updates and additions to the Porsche Cars GB retail network, which is rolling out a new corporate identity, including a number of large-scale Destination Porsche Centres.

Porsche Retail Group recently completed its work to develop a new Destination Porsche facility in Reading.

Other recent changes to the network include plans for a new Rybrook-operated facility in High Wycombe.

In its planning application for the brand’s new Newport development, Pier Architecture said: “Dick Lovett is not your ‘normal’ car dealer with the far too often unsightly view of cars sprawled on every inch of hard and soft landscaping and spilling onto neighbouring roads.

“On Dick Lovett sites there is a firm belief in a well-managed site presented in a tidy and clean manner with exceptionally designed, installed, and maintained buildings and mature landscaping that forms a dominating part of the site to provide a world class experience for both the staff and customers.

“This can be very clearly seen by visiting any one of their sites across the southwest of England and Wales and this proposal in Newport is no different.”

Porsche, recently floated in an IPO, has seen its UK new car registrations climb 48.7% year-to-date (to the end of September), with a volume of 11,948 units.

Reuters reported that Porsche's initial IPO succeeded in raising €19.5 billion (£16.9bn) for parent company the Volkswagen Group.
