Audi–S3

Winter 2013

We’ll have to wait till the tale end of 2013 before we see the hot hatch version of the A3, but Audi promises the S3 will be worth the wait. A 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine punches out 296bhp to make the S3 one of the most potent cars in its class, which is enough to see it from 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 155mph.

Quattro four-wheel drive and an S-tronic seven speed dual-clutch gearbox will be one option for the S3 or buyers can choose a six-speed manual ’box. It will also come with a ride height lowered by 25mm compared to the standard A3 hatch’s, so handling and grip should be a given. There will be 18-inch alloy wheels as part of the S3’s package, along with sports seats finished in leather or optional leather and Alcantara.

As well as the S3’s sporting credentials, Audi will be looking to attract fleet buyers with the S3’s 40.4mpg average fuel economy.

This rises to 40.9mpg with the S-tronic gearbox, while carbon dioxide emissions come in at a fleet-friendly 159g/km with the S-tronic or 162g/km with the manual.
