The E-Up kicks off a year that will see Volkswagen introduce not one, but two all-electric models to the UK. We’ll have to wait a little longer for the E-Golf, but the E-Up comes with a range of up to 93 miles and an 81bhp electric motor to give 0-62mph in 12.4 seconds, so performance is noticeably brisker than with the 1.0-litre petrol engines. All E-Ups will be five-door models and the battery can be quick charged in 30 minutes to 80% of maximum capacity. With the government’s £5000 Plug-In Car Grant factored in, the E-Up costs £19,250 or VW also offers a £199 per month lease deal through its e-Solutions Finance personal contract plan. However, the £199 deal requires a £7125 initial deposit.
