International Motors is fighting back with the Isuzu brand having settled its legal differences with GM over Monterey sales but is finding the going tough. The market is hugely competitive and Trooper lacks the fashion status necessary to break through. Most sales are to utility companies and public service operators such as forestry and police forces so there are good opportunities for corporate specialists. Initial annual targets were as high as 5,000 units a year but only 3,000 were sold in 1999. Almost all the dealerships are dualled with International Motors' other brand, Subaru.
