Parts firms look at internet sales

Aftermarket companies are rushing to put their products on the internet, attracted by forecasts of massive rises in online sales.

Parts and accessories supplier Unipart has launched through which is will provide a one-stop shop for logistics, distribution, supplier and customer relationship services.

Unipart Group chief executive John Neill revealed the plans for a series of e-commerce ventures after announcing record sales of £1.4bn last year (up from £1.2bn) and pre-tax profits of £84.8m (from £35.2m in 1998).

The move follows ventures by Motorway Tyre & Autocentres and Cam Systems to sell tyres online.
