Unions ready to fight Ford plan

Ford faces a long wrangle with its workforce at Dagenham following next month's expected announcement that car production will end there in 2001. Unions have talked of possible strikes at other Ford plants to try to force a management rethink and supply of Fiestas and other models could be affected. Nick Scheele, Ford of Europe chairman, is thought to have decided to switch all Fiesta production to Cologne, Germany, next year when the new model is ready.
