Lex Vehicle Leasing is investing in an extensive training programme to arm its staff with the necessary knowledge to match vans to customers' needs as a means to maximise the use of its 18,000-plus van fleet.

Nick Addison, LVL van specialist, said: “We know that lack of information means a lack of confidence - this is exactly what we don't want. Fleet managers want sound advice and the knowledge they are getting the best deal possible. We want Lex people to be armed with the facts.”

LVL has spent a lot of time working with manufacturers to help its employees understand the key areas of importance for users.

“LDV, Ford and Mercedes have all made a massive effort to bring their vans to the three main Lex sites. Once there, they let the front liners crawl all over the vans, drive them, ask questions and generally get the feel of them,” said Addison.

Meanwhile, LVL has been chosen by the RAC, acquired last year by Lex Service, to outsource the funding and management of its 500-car and 1,300-van fleet. All RAC vehicles are being provided and managed by LVL and the management of the existing fleet is being transferred to Lex.
