eBid is set to launch a new car auction site featuring preregistered stock. The online auctions firm is near agreement with a large dealer group in the north of England to supply the cars for the venture. The auction site will have around 5,000 cars at launch, most of which are likely to be preregistered and heavily discounted.

Mark Wilkinson, managing director of eBid, said: “We believe consumers will feel comfortable about buying a new car on the web. Unlike used cars, consumers don't face the risk of buying a car with a less than satisfactory history.” Initially the service will use a 'static' auction. It will list makes and models, an accompanying photo of the car and the bid price. A live auction may be added.
