Findings from two major studies into consumer demands will be presented at Motor retailing 2005, Automotive Management's autumn conference.

Derek Ralston, managing director of London brand consultancy Mountainview, said: "People are motivated by fundamental needs which drive society. The survey provides an insight into what people want and expect."

Mr Ralston will be a speaker at London Olympia on September 26 in place of Mountainview colleague David Barker who has a business commitment in US. The conference will be chaired by Professor Garel Rhys, of Cardiff Business School, who believes dealers can ward off online new entrants if they do their job well.

The speakers include Ian Lancaster, Virgin Cars chief executive, who will reveal the next phase of the company's development.

The franchised dealer perspective will be presented by Alan Pulham (National Franchised Dealers Association director) and Mark Squires (Benfield chief executive).

James Rodger and Richard Boot of sponsor KPMG will reveal findings from a survey into customer retention at dealerships.
