Renault is expected to increase its cross-shareholding relationship with Nissan sooner than expected after the Japanese carmaker announced record half-year operating profit of £1.09bn, up 39% on 2000.

Renault, which holds a 36.8% stake in Nissan, has the option of raising its share to 44.4% by 2004, while Nissan could take a stake in Renault. (October 23, 2001)
