October was the best month ever for Land Rover sales, with more vehicles sold so far this year than throughout 2000. The total to the end of October was 39,879 registrations, 13.7% up on the whole of last year.

Mike Wright, Land Rover UK managing director, said: “This record has been achieved by the overwhelming success of Freelander – the best selling 4x4 SUV in the UK and Europe for the third year running. Land Rover Discovery also made good progress in October with sales almost 17% up on this time last year. And despite being its final year, the current Range Rover sales are also up 2%.
