Vauxhall has cut the prices of its joint venture Vivaro van by £300 to bring it in line with development partner Renault's Trafic. Both vans now start at £11,995.

The move comes amid widespread confusion over the two companies' on-the-road pricing structure.

Vauxhall's original press statement suggested the Trafic undercut the Vivaro by around £1,000. It quoted the Vivaro 1.9 DI as £12,925 on-the-road (Trafic £11,995) and the 1.9 DTI £13,525 (Trafic £12,500).

A Vauxhall spokesman said Renault had “cunningly left out the on-the-road price”, which made the Vivaro appear more expensive.

“We assumed the Renault prices were on the road, but we discovered that wasn't the case after one of their dealers complained about our statement,” he said.

“Now we have rolled back prices by £300, the Vivaro starts from £12,625 on-the-road – £35 more than the Trafic.”
