MG Rover has said it would welcome closer ties with Land Rover on research and development projects.

Bob Dover, Land Rover chief executive, said at the Geneva motor show that he was willing to meet with Kevin Howe, his opposite number at MG Rover for discussions on engine design, parts supply and the offer of spare capacity at Land Rover's development facilities at Gaydon.

An MG Rover spokesman also confirmed that it would announce details of its all-new medium sector car by summer.

“We need to replace our medium car platform by 2004 and we will soon make a decision on whether we will go into partnership with an OEM on a new platform or use the R75 front wheel drive platform,” the spokesman said.
