BMC, the Milton Keynes car dealer has created an hourly car rental scheme for students at Cranfield University.

The dealership offers a range of two and four seater Aixam (pictured) vehicles, which are built in France and have been available for only two years in the UK. The vehicles are shorter than a Mini and have an acrylic body on an aluminium chassis.

BMC charges a membership fee, plus 70 pence an hour and 15 pence a mile to use a car. Non-members pay £3 an hour. Booking can also be done over the internet.

CampusCars was created by BMCs owner Phil Brown and Prof Steve Cousins from the university.

Mr Brown said: “It's a scheme that has flourished because we have been able to charge very low prices to students by using economical vehicles, with outstanding fuel economy.”
