New Ford GB director of sales Paul Thomas intends to maintain the manufacturer's position as the UK's top seller in both car and commercial vehicle markets.

He said: “The British vehicle market is one of the most competitive in the world. We have an excellent dealer network and a dedicated team of Ford sales professionals.

“I am looking forward to the challenge of continuing Ford's No1 position.”

Mr Thomas, who joined Ford Motor Company in 1974 and has held posts at Ford GB, Ford Credit and Ford Europe, succeeds Richard Wright.

In a statement dated April 11, Ford said Mr Wright would be assigned to a senior management position “at a later date”. A spokeswoman said no decision on his position had been taken.
