Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has unveiled an improved range of Transporters.

The 800 Special remains the entry model with the price frozen at £9,995, while every other model is upgraded to a 1,200kg payload, up from 1,000kg. Prices for all existing 1,200kg models have been reduced by £80.

Part of the motivation for the move is tax rules which allow the VAT to be recovered on vehicles with a payload greater than 1,000kg. This means that on a Transporter with 102bhp TDI diesel costing £19,268 OTR, £2,842 is recoverable.

To the end of October the 88bhp Transporter will come with 0% finance.

VW has also launched a new LT32 range, between the LT28 and LT35, available with either a 83, 95 or 109bhp TDI engine, two wheelbases and two roof height options. The range starts from £16,206 OTR, excluding VAT.

Two new engines have been introduced to the LT range for 2002 models. A 2.5-litre 83bhp TDI replaces the 75bhp SDI unit, the 90bhp TDI is replaced by a 2.5-litre 95bhp engine and towards the end of 2001, a 2.8-litre 158bhp TDi replaces the 130bhp unit.
