Cellport Systems, a leading US telematics company, is launching its patent protected in-car mobile phone system in the UK, claimed to be the first that is compatible with all mobile phone networks.

Ford has signed a supply contract with Cellport to fit hands-free, voice-activated mobile phone kits to future models sold in Europe. Its ability to operate with future telematics technology is a major advantage to manufacturers.

Stephen Parrish, Cellport Global Partners president, said: “Manufacturers are our No1 target. We are in talks with General Motors in the US and we are taking forward steps with several manufacturers in Japan.”

He expects the system to enjoy “a good level of success” with dealers. In the US the kit, which includes microphone, speaker and docking station, costs £138, with installation adding £52.
