Harley-Davidson has launched a used motorcycle programme at its 22 UK dealerships, which include four Pendragon outlets, two Pinewood Motor stores and Big Rock, Nottingham, owned by Dixon Motors.

Harley Approved is designed to boost sales of used motorcycles at authorised retailers by giving them a marketing tool to fend off competition from unauthorised rivals. The company took advice from its car dealer partners, who already benefit from extended manufacturer warranties on new and used vehicles, before launching the scheme.

The 12-month warranty offers riders the same benefits as buyers of new motorcycles for no cost, including 12-month Harley Owners' Group membership and 12-month roadside assistance. It applies to used motorcycles up to eight years old and 60,000 miles.

Garry Brumfitt, Harley-Davidson UK managing director, said: “We have been trialing the scheme and feedback from customers and dealers has been overwhelmingly positive.”
