Independent motor retailer Nidd Vale has promoted Colin Hainstock as new managing director of the group's new division, Nidd Vale (General Motors).

He will have responsibility for the division's two Harrogate-based businesses Nidd Vale Vauxhall and Nidd Vale Saab, together with Sandbeck Motors, the firm's other Vauxhall franchise in Wetherby.

The move will also allow Nidd Vale chairman Richard Jackson to concentrate on expanding its Mercedes-Benz interests through Nidd Vale (Mercedes).

Mr Jackson said: "Following an intensive phase of acquisition and expansion it is now the right time to form dedicated divisions."

Mr Hainstock was previously Nidd Vale's group operations director.
