Ford has submitted a planning application for three 1.8 megawatt wind turbines at its Dagenham car plant. The aim is to provide the total energy requirements for the carmaker's new “Clean Room” assembly hall which will expand production of diesel engines.

The project is a partnership with electricity supplier Ecotricity. The three turbines will produce the power equivalent to the energy needs of 3000 homes and form's Ford's contribution to meeting London Mayor Ken Livingstone's recently published renewable energy targets for the city,

One of the turbines will feature a 65m high public viewing platform which will be accessible via a stairwell located inside the tower. Visitors will be able to enjoy panoramic views of the London skyline.
