The RMI has warned MOT stations to watch out for telecom providers trying to sell them unnecessary additional phone lines for MOT computerisation.

Stations are being told by sales representatives from telecom companies that they will need digital phone lines for MOT computerisation.

However, according to the Vehicle Inspectorate (VI), there is no such requirement. Existing analogue lines are sufficient.

Ian Davis-Knight, RMI operations manager, explains: “Most testing stations will find that their existing lines are adequate for computerisation, so taking any more could be an unnecessary expenditure.”

RMI members that are in doubt should contact the RMI.
