Oxfordshire-based Diagnos, the developer of diagnostic and programming tools for independent garages, is working on new software it says will crack the Mercedes-Benz workshop data code.

Its Autologic product - incorporated in a touch screen, hand held device - was developed in 1999 for non-franchise Land Rover servicing and repair outlets and is now supplied to customers in 15 countries.

Hot on the heels of a version just released for BMW, Diagnos says Autologic for Mercedes-Benz could help former Mercedes retailers retain their customers after the network shake up and manufacturer-issued diagnostic equipment is taken back. Autologic for Mercedes-Benz will go on sale within the next six months to rival Mercedes' Star Tester system.

Autologic for BMW has been available since April and includes data on the E36, Z3, E38, E39 and E46 models. Internet upgrades are available for E53, E31, E32 and E34.
