Toyota has released prices for the new Avensis, which goes on sale on March 1. The entry-level D-sector model, available in estate, hatchback and saloon with five different trim levels, starts at £13,995, rising to £20,995.

The 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre petrol engines will be available from launch and the 2.0-litre direct injection diesel from May. Entry level T2 cars come with nine airbags, air-con, alarm and an eight-speaker audio system, making it one of the best specified cars in its class.

Major service intervals will be every 20,00 miles with a 'health check' required every 10,000 miles.
