The North's largest chain of motorists shops and fitting centres, Motosave, has been recognised as an investor in people.

The scheme is monitored by the government's training arm, Business Link, which reported that Motosave was "something special".

"Rarely have I interviewed when 100% of the people have been so positive about the levels of support for training," explained independent assessor Philipa White.

The business has grown from one small shop to 23 branches, competing against nationally-known organisations in a competitive market. Chief executive Terry Smith says: "I am well aware of the return on investment to be had with regard to training and development of our staff. Not only in terms of hard benefits such as achievement in budget goals but also in softer benefits such as increased confidence and commitment of our staff."
