Dealers could be forced to review their demonstrator fleets following the publication of new Health and Safety Executive guidelines.

They state that vehicles used for at-work driving, including cars on loan from a dealer's demonstration fleet, must be maintained and repaired to an acceptable standard. Industry services provider Network Automotive Management is warning that many dealers will need to upgrade their demonstrator maintenance procedures in line with the new guidelines or face the consequences. Robin Goudge, NAM's operations director, says: “Some demonstrator fleets are very well managed but others undertake safety checks that are now not as complete as the new HSE guidelines specify. Much more depth may now be required.”
