European Union anti-trust officials have raided Peugeot-Citroen offices and dealerships in France, Germany, Netherlands and Denmark as part of an investigation into price rigging.

The move is part of an EU probe into whether European car makers are attempting to discourage consumers from buying cars in countries where prices are lower.

European Commission spokesman Timal Lueder said the commission wanted to make sure that customers in Germany and France, where prices are high, knew that they could pay less in Denmark and the Netherlands.

Lueder said the Peugeot raids were part of an investigation into car industry practices and it was too early to say whether the company would be fined.
