Saab will take the wraps off a new sports hatch concept (pictured below) at next month's Frankfurt motor show as it prepares to launch the 9-3 estate next year.

The premium five-door, created by design chief Michael Mauer and inspired by the 9-3X concept, has four seats and promises to combine driving dynamics with versatility. Powered by a high performance 250bhp 2.0-litre turbo, it underlines Saab's intention to enter the mid-size premium estate segment.

Peter Augustsson, Saab chief executive officer, says: “We have promised the largest product offensive in our history and with all the products that we've shown in the last two years it's obvious that we're keeping that promise.

“This concept car isn't just a show car. It demonstrates our intent to continue and evolve and expand the 9-3 model range.”
