Reductions in parts discounts will affect every repairer; taking no action is definitely not an option, says the VBRA.

Ford, soon to be joined by other vehicle manufacturers, have already restructured their parts discounts available to their distributors, who in turn may reduce discounts to their trade customers. Ron Nicholson, VBRA Director-General said, “Repairers should check what their current margins are and if they note there are reductions then immediate action should be taken.

“The options can include re-negotiating the work provider contracts where parts discounts are given, and re-negotiating with parts suppliers or finding alternative sources. We are pleased to say that some work providers have already responded positively to the VBRA's alert.”
