Porsche announced the precautionary recall of 22,158 of its Cayenne SUV to fix a brake spring that could wear an electrical cable. The recall affects about two-thirds of production to date.

No failure has yet been reported, but Porsche's SUV, the star of its 2003 sales, needs a failsafe reputation to maintain the brand's growth. Some 37,000 Cayennes have been sold since its launch in October 2002.
