Fiat-GM Powertrain joint venture engine plant alongside the Vauxhall assembly plant at Ellesmere Port is to close in early July, it was confirmed to unions on 7 April.

There will be no job losses, as the 175 workers are to be re-integrated into the Vauxhall assembly operations. The engine plant has been building 54-degree V6 petrol engines for Vauxhall, latterly on a single shift, and unions had been warned of falling demand for these units back in February this year.
