Peugeot has decided to expand its model identification system by doubling the central 0 in its car names.

Frederic Saint-Geours, CEO of Peugeot, says: “For each family of models, we apply a strategy which is like a daisy surrounded by individual petals. Therefore, around a central model, we mimic the individual petals.”

It probably sounds better in French, but the start of this new four-digit naming system coincides with this year's launch of a new model, derived from the Sesame concept car shown at the 2002 Paris Motor Show.

The new 1007 (pronounced 'one double 0 seven') will get its public showing before the end of this year.
