Seat has announced details of its new Toledo after it was previewed at the Madrid Motor Show two months ago.

The third generation Toledo retains its styling of the current model (launched in 1998) with the rear hatch of the first Toledo (1991), but without giving up its large volume boot.

The new Toledo will have its public debut in September at the Paris Motor Show. It will be on sale in some European markets before the end of the year and in the UK early 2005.

At 4.5 metres long and 1.77 metres wide, the new Toledo offers more interior space than some longer vehicles thanks to its mono-volume design and its height of 1.57 metres. It also boasts a two-level luggage compartment with a 500-litre capacity.

The new Toledo will be available with four different engines, two petrol – 150bhp 2.0 FSI and 102bhp 1.6 - and two diesel - 140bhp 2.0 TDI and 105bhp 1.9.

The two most powerful engines – the two-litre FSI and TDI – are combined with a six-speed manual gearbox. In addition, the FSI will be available with automatic and sequential Tiptronic 6-speed gearbox. The 2.0 TDI will have the option of the new DSG 6-speed gearbox.

ABS, TCS and ESP systems are all included with the new Toledo, along with emergency brake assistance (EBA).

The Toledo is equipped with six airbags as standard: driver and passenger airbags, and side and head airbags. It also includes three-point seatbelts for all five seats, with pre-tensioners at the front and the Isofix system for securing child seats integrated in the back seats.
