Trader Link, a mobile phone service designed to facilitate the sale and purchase of used vehicles within the motor trade, is receiving 50,000 enquiries from dealers a month just six months after its launch.

The facility, which was launched by Auto Trader in March, sends real-time alerts of stock which its registered traders wish to dispose of to dealers via WAP-enabled mobile phone, SMS, e-mail or fax.

Registered traders can upload details of unwanted part exchanges to Trader Link, which then distributes the information to car retailers who may be interested from its database of 12,000 traders across the UK. Subscription costs £10 per week.

Jonathan Williams, head of marketing at Auto Trader Digital, says: “We’re trying to make the business of dealing cars more efficient.

“If customers create a strong demand for a particular model the dealer can respond by searching Trader Link for extra stock to meet that demand.”
