Mazda has reported its most successful year of sales ever in the UK, selling a total of 48,453 units, an increase of 24.7% on 2003.

September marked the highest passenger car share ever for Mazda at 2.11% and a volume of 9,211 units, while Mazda6, Mazda3, Mazda2 and Mazda RX-8 enjoyed their highest sales volumes.

Retail sales increased by 49.8% at 24,956 units compared to 16,661 in 2003 boosted by the first full year of sales for Mazda RX-8 and launch of Mazda3, as well as the continued appeal of Mazda MX-5, which celebrated its 15th anniversary year of global sales.

Fleet sales saw an increase of over 38% thanks to the continued appeal of the multi-award winning Mazda6 and its strong residual values proposition.

Sales director Rob Lindley commented on the record-breaking success: "2004 was a fantastic year for Mazda seeing us reach over 2% market share for the first time (in September) and breaking our best ever sales records in the UK, selling almost 10,000 more new Mazda vehicles than in 2003.

"2005 is already proving a success with Mazda3 sales expected to reach over 10,000 units since its launch by the end of January and five new dealers opening, stretching Mazda's wings that much further across the UK. We are now focusing on achieving 52,000 sales this year and look forward to an exciting 2005.”

Mazda dealers opening in January are Colliers Mazda, Solihull; Haymill Mazda, Farnham Common near Beaconsfield; John Pease Mazda, Chelmsford; Birchwood Mazda, Eastbourne and Peoples Mazda, Bootle, Liverpool. Colliers, John Pease and Peoples are all opening their second sites for Mazda whilst the opening of GK Group in Mansfield in February will bring their Mazda dealer count up to four. By the end of January 2005 Mazda will have 149 sales points operational, up from 134 at the end of 2003.
