Total car production in the three months to September rose by 5.6 per cent compared with the previous three months, says the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Export production increased by 8.2 per cent in this period, while home production fell by 1.7 per cent.

In comparison with the same three months a year ago, total production rose by 0.9 per cent.

Export production increased by 4.2 per cent, while home production fell by 8.2 per cent.

An average of approximately 126,000 cars a month were produced in the three months to September. Of these, approx 92,000 cars were for the export market and approx 34,000 were for the home market.

Seasonally adjusted, UK production of commercial vehicles in the three months to September fell by 1.8 per cent compared with the previous three months, and fell 1.3 per cent compared with the same period a year earlier.
