Clocking continues to be a major issue for dealers as latest figures from HPI’s National Mileage Register (NMR) show 1.3 million vehicles registered since 1990 have a current discrepancy.

Motor dealers are no longer allowed to use disclaimer notices to highlight the fact that a vehicle’s mileage is incorrect without stating the actual mileage.

Trading Standards Officers have made it clear that when a dealer is aware of the mileage this information should be made known to the consumer.

Latest figures show that the NMR receives 5,000 requests every day from dealers looking to verify a vehicle’s mileage.

Conducting an NMR Check and Investigation, says HPI, is the best way for dealers to protect their business, customers and reputation. By making an effort to validate the true mileage of the vehicles on their forecourts, dealers will be both adhering to the Trading Standards regulations and operating best practice.
