Management consultant Steve Young has left his vice-presidential post at AT Kearney to concentrate on his vision for a new style of UK-based volume carmaker under the Indego brand.

Young, who co-developed Indego Consulting with former Ford of Europe president Martin Leach, before he became head of Maserati, says he will build a management team and seek funding from entrepreneurs and corporate finance institutions for the project, which he says could come to market by the end of the decade. Leach’s input is now “informal”.

Although he had been in talks with carmakers while at Kearney, Young says he sees Indego as a start-up business with manufacturing and engineering partners, building its own range of cars with common platforms and engines for short and medium term leasing contracts.
