Toyota Motor Europe has set a target of 980,000 vehicle sales this year, compared to the 916,000 total for 2004.

Bolstered by the next generation Yaris and Aygo, it expects about 1.05m sales in 2006, including Russia and other Eastern European markets.

Toyota currently assembles about 60% of the cars it sells in Europe, and is expected to confirm the location of extra European capacity before the year-end.

In Poland, Toyota moved in January from third-placed to top selling marque, ahead of Fiat and Skoda, with a 10% market share.
