Toyota has chosen the UK as the location for a new £11.2 million production training centre.

The E-GPC (European – Global Production training Centre) will provide production and maintenance skills training to employees of Toyota’s European manufacturing operations.

The centre will be located within the grounds of Toyota’s car plant in Burnaston, Derbyshire (home of the Avensis and Corolla). A purpose-built, 8,000m2 training facility will be constructed and will begin operations in January 2006.

The new facility will employ 15 trainers who will be responsible for training up to 1,000 Toyota employees each year.

"Toyota’s European production training centre will play a vital role in ensuring our manufacturing employees receive the training and development they need to continue to provide our customers with superior quality vehicles," says Shinichi Sasaki, president and CEO of Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing Europe.

"This also continues Toyota’s policy of localisation in Europe, which includes a European design centre, eight manufacturing plants and a dedicated R&D facility," says Sasaki.
