Renault pre-registered more cars than any other manufacturer by a wide margin in May, according to figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

The French carmaker pre-registered 1,295 vehicles, with a total sale value of £10,275,267.

The next highest tally was Ford with 150, representing a total sale value of £935,496.

The Supply of New Cars Order 2000 requires motor manufacturers to publish the number of pre-registered cars supplied and the gross income received by suppliers from selling those pre-registered cars.
