John Bowden, the Yorkshire businessman who last November threatened to sue Vauxhall, has taken no action, says the manufacturer.

Bowden told AM he lost £2m because an agreement to sell Midlothian Garages in Huddersfield to Reg Vardy plc fell through after Vauxhall behaved “outrageously”.

The franchise for Huddersfield was awarded to Perry Motor Group, which has a West Yorkshire market area for Vauxhall.

Bowden claims he had to spend £1.5m on a new dealership when forced to sell his Vauxhall site at Holmfirth, near Huddersfield, and move into the town. The Huddersfield business became an MG Rover outlet but is now closed.
